This week, we spent much of our time adding details and polish to the ideas we had and trying to iron out where we wanted to go with the project. We made a lot of progress, and we still have a lot of ideas we want to iron out. We have decided that self-defense as a focus is still good, but we also want to pivot slightly into a fitness program.
Progress
Added a punching bag that actually moves back when you punch it
Added boxing gloves in the gym with collision
Added some foliage and rocks outside to make the environment more natural
Added a reflex training game with sound (it's quite fun!), and a button that takes you to it
Overhauled our website to make it much more professional
Added a detection system that allows us to detect which hand is touching the punching bag
New Ideas
We have some ideas for things we want to implement this week:
Make the punching training its own minigame
Add an environment around the reflex training minigame
Add a way to reset the minigame
Add a way to get back to the gym from the minigame
Add some checking to make sure the player is punching with the correct form
Add a warning to make sure the player is being aware of their surroundings (and not punching any monitors!)
And many more ideas to come!
New Direction
We still want to make self-defense and training the user how to throw a punch a focus, but we have decided to possibly shelve the aggressive encounter idea. With the reflex training minigame, we have a very solid base in fitness and reflex testing, so we want to expand on this idea, but we are a little split on either idea. We are meeting soon, and will get this straightened out. We are excited to move this project forward!
